My Partner also choose 4, all different to those i selected. It's the start of all Jill's problems. Two plates of three that is 6 of the little dishes , plus one side was plenty enough for the three of us remembering that each dish is replete in itself. We had the Garlic, Parmesan and herb bread to start and I could have been happy eating that all night! Really happy with our overall experience even if it started out a little slow. Even though it was weeknight, this restaurant was packed. My Partner also choose 4, all different to those i selected.
The menu had 15 options. We came here for our anniversary and it was perfect. Gosh there are times when a counter meal steak meal can cost this much. It was cozy downstairs, candles on each table and warm on a cool night in Geelong. And thirdly was a duck, chicken and pistachio nut terrine served with beetroot chutney and cassava biscuit. The wait was certainly worth it. The only thing I can pick on was the limited beer and wine menu and it was a little pricey.
The Mains are served with either 3 or 4 individual smaller meals on the one plate. Rated Lobbed in on a Friday night and the place was rocking. They also have blackboard specials highlighting local vineyards. They don't serve huge burdensome meals that you struggle to get through. You will have fun trying this gem of a restaurant. Spanning the period from the Depression to the freewheeling '60s, Helen Hodgman's second novel—winner of the Somerset Maugham Award—is a masterpiece, a twisted fairytale told with her characteristic dark wit.
All views expressed are those of the writers and may not be the views of publishers of Best Restaurants of Australia. My favorite was the Thai Prawn cakes. Staff are friendly and helpful. We had the Garlic, Parmesan and herb bread to start and I could have been happy eating that all night! In this case It was yum at first sight. We had a great dining experience. The options catered to all dietary requirements. These are all carefully balanced each with requisite accompaniments.
Subdued lighting and modern artwork. I was starting to wonder where our food was considering it was just the two of us but once it came out everything was forgotten about. We invite not only those with a positive experience but also constructive criticism. The scallops were perfect, the egg custard and teriyaki chicken was really tasty and something I wouldn't normally order but really enjoyed! There was 4 of us so the 16 worked out well. But make sure you book in advance, even on a weeknight.
To Leonie and the team at Jack n Jill a big thank you for a great night. Pricing isn't cheap, but wasn't highly expensive either. Rather they offer a selection of entree-sized portions or mini-meals. These included selections such as roasted pumpkin, fontina, snow pea tendril, pine nuts and port soaked raisins, while another was covered in meatballs in a rich red wine tomato sauce with melted parmigiana. Food quality is great, every dish is very carefully prepared and meticulously presented. For desert my partner had a Affogato which he really enjoyed and I had the chocolate half sphere which was beautiful! I hate fennel but loved the fennel rosti with the quail and the Califlower and cheese croquettes were amazing! We had a great dining experience. I guess kind of a in the spirit of Tapas style , but not.
Would recommend to anyone who hasnt been to Jack n Jill to pop in and enjoy the experience too. A lot of the patrons seemed to be groups of middle-aged foodies, there were a few families, groups of female friends, plus dating couples. On the other selection plate was curried rabbit spring rolls with lime mayonnaise, Australian bush herb lamb koftas served with home-made coleslaw and a black grape and native lemon chutney. . Although we chose not to indulge, there was also a great selection of foccacia breads to share. After the meal two of us opted to share a dessert. Dishes have a very different but great concept.
There were some 17 small choices on offer. The wait was certainly worth it. Yet despite all the hoopla about this zany little concept restaurant, the cost of meals remains attractive. Theirs is a simple life in the outback, far from the big city where a coathanger is being built across a sparkling harbour. The Mains are served with either 3 or 4 individual smaller meals on the one plate. But as it was a weekday night, it wasn't open.
Rated Had the opportunity to Dine at Jack n Jill this week. Rated This place was fantastic!!!! I found the restaurant comfortable, clean and inviting. A busy place but not overcrowded to a point where the service is comprised. For mains we had the 4 each tapas option and everything was beautiful! Leonie Mills has had more than 15 years experience in some of Melbourne's better known restaurants. I guess kind of a in the spirit of Tapas style , but not. The entree was full of flavour and the table service made us feel welcome without being over intrusive. And he's right, in a way—but this is no ordinary romance.
